The third early-career PI meeting took place in November 2016 in Tromsø, Norway as a workshop with altogether 14 participants representing Norway, Sweden and Finland. The responsible organizers were Laura Jaakola (UiT, Norway) and Stephen Wenkel (Copenhagen Plant Science Centre, University of Copenhagen, Denmark).
Since many of the ECPI network members are already familiar with the main research themes of each other and have established collaborative projects, the third ECPI meeting had a strong focus on future co-authored publications and submissions to promote the SPPS-owned journal, Physiologia Plantarum. Also newly joined ECPI members easily opted in and found new possibilities for collaborative projects. The close collaborations will forward one of the main aims of the ECPI network, which is to combine different expertise in attempts to translate basic information from model organisms to useful plants and photosynthetic microbes. As a result of a three-day brainstorming, the ECPI group drafted a framework for a series of review and research articles to be submitted to our journal.
In addition to having a chance to experience the arctic atmosphere in the beautiful city of Tromsø, the participants experienced the third day of the meeting on a small boat that cruised along the picturesque fjords until a group of whales was spotted. Accompanied by sea eagles gliding in the sky, the splash of a whale made a memorable sight.
Next time the ECPI network will get together is in the SPPS congress, to be held in Naantali, Finland in August 2017. Old and new members, warmly welcome!
